About the book:
The Vagina Monologues by Eve Ensler is celebrated as the bible for a new generation of women. It was first performed by the author and has since been performed in cities all across America and at hundreds of college campuses. It has inspired a dynamic grassroots movement -- V-Day -- to stop violence against women.

The Vagina Monologues explores the mystery, humor, pain, power, wisdom, outrage and excitement buried in womens experiences.  It is based on interviews with a diverse group of hundreds of womenfrom a Long Island antiques dealer to a Bosnian refugee.

Witty and irreverent, compassionate and wise, Eve Enslers Obie Award winning masterpiece gives voice to womens deepest fantasies and fears, guaranteeing that no one who reads it will ever look at a womans body, or think of sex, in quite the same way again.

Synopsis:

This is a delightful story of an inquisitive youth named Monroe who wanders into a seemingly abandoned factory, owned by a Mr. Aesop. The youngster accidentally trips a lever, which activates the factory "machinery," an assembly line of fable-makers who create, then enact Aesop's fabulous fables. Among them are Straucy, the Story Starter; Pluto, the Plot Plotter; Wadsworth, the Word Worker; and Gretel, the Grammar Guardian. These workers proceed to create what become official fables when Monroe himself surprises everyone by supplying the morals. Mr. Aesop and the others are ecstatic over their new-found "Moral Maker." The troupe then performs some of the best of Aesop's fables with bright and charming songs.

Maria Stuarda or "Mary, Queen of Scots":

THE STORY

In a powerful political and religious chess game where death makes the final move, England’s Queen Elizabeth confronts her cousin, the rebellious Queen Mary Stuart of Scotland who is accused of treason. Caught in the middle is the Earl of Leicester, who loves Mary but is desired by Elizabeth. In a dramatic confrontation between the two Queens, it becomes obvious there is no room in Britain for two such powerful adversaries. Torn between the need to consolidate her power and the compassion she feels for Mary, Elizabeth puts personal feelings aside and is finally convinced by her courtiers to behead her own relative. She orders Leicester to watch the execution. [English Synopsis] [Videos & Podcasts]

THE MUSIC

Full of melody from the composer of Lucia di Lammermoor, with great choruses and dramatic ensembles, Mary, Queen of Scots is a classic lyric opera in the bel canto style, which simply means beautiful singing, and that’s what this opera is all about.
